A Ukraine-Russian crew of the Silvretta bulk carrier has been attacked by pirates off Nigeria, UKRINFORM reported quoting the Maritime Bulletin Sovfracht.
The ship heaved to 20 miles from Lagos, Nigeria. A boat with 9 pirates rushed into the bulker at night and beat the captain and other sailors. They also robbed the captain's safe and stole the sailors' valuables and disappeared.
A Switzerland-flagged Silvretta bulk carries was operated by Suisse-Atlantique Societe de Nav. Maritime S.A., Lausanne.
“This was a purely Ukrainian or Russian-Ukrainian crew - 23 persons,” the statement reads.
