Formation and development of a nation is possible only if it remembers and honors its history emphasized President Viktor Yushchenko at the meeting with students and faculty of Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University, president's press office reported.

He reminded that these days Ukraine commemorates victims of the Holodomor of 1932-33, one of the most tragic pages in the history of our people, which it is time to tell the truth about.

Speaking about this tragedy, the President stressed that despite the fact that in 1933 peasants harvested enough crops, in Ukraine 25 thousand people died daily of starvation. The famine in Ukraine by the number of victims, and inhuman cruelty was one of the biggest humanitarian disasters in the history of mankind.

"It is very important for us to realize that because no other nation has been through such a genocide... We lost about 10 million people. It is not just a question of history - it is the question of memory. If you have memory, you must give assessment of that evil", said Victor Yushchenko. He also added that "it is not about punishment... but about human condemnation" of the crimes.
