Scope of flu epidemic, including California virus, is immense in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Viktor
Yushchenko told reporters. "We have specific risk factors, aggravating
the epidemic exactly in Ukraine, which is seen from findings of both
the National Security and Defense Council and international experts,"
the head of state said.
Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine was hit by three at once hard virus infectious agents - two seasonal and Californian flues. Virologists say, as a result of mutations, this combination of infections may produce an even more aggressive new virus.
"That is why I addressed the United Nations with the request to conduct a virology expert examination of Ukraine, and set up an appropriate laboratory to take efficient anti-epidemic measures," the President emphasized.
