Ukraine is willing to change the agreements fixing Russian gas purchase volumes, says Bohdan Sokolovskyi, presidential commissioner for energy security, UKRINFORM reported.

He noted that, under those agreements, Ukraine must buy 40 billion cubic meters of gas, but due to the crisis the demand reduced to less than 30 billion cubic meters.

“We may have to pay a fine of USD 5.9 billion,” Sokolovskyi said. “We will hardly be able to do so: Ukraine has no money,” he added.

Beside that, Sokolovskyi says, it is necessary to raise the price of gas transit to Western Europe, which is about USD 3.5 billion - USD 7 billion.
