Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko refused to sign amendments to the state budget for 2009 on the allocation by the National Bank of Ukraine of UAH 10 billion (UAH 8.01 / USD 1) required to finance the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championship, the presidential press service reported.

Last week Verkhovna Rada passed a resolution that obliged the head of state to sign the law within three days, as MPs overrode a presidential veto of this document.

"I cannot sign the law of August 21, 2009 on amending the law on the state budget of Ukraine for 2009 and some other Ukrainian laws and I propose that parliament, in line with the constitution, reconsider it along with presidential proposals," Yushchenko said, National radio reported.
