Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko says that Ukraine is doing its best for the development of good-neighborly relations with Russia, National radio reported.

In an interview to BBC Ukrainian service President underlined that his policy all over the past four years was showing a great respect to Russia and correct attitude to it, the presidential press service reported. In the President's words, the Ukraine - Russia relations must develop according to the principle of mutual respect to one another's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Nobody aims to have problems in relations with Russia, but nobody will also sacrifice sovereignty or independence, Yushchenko noted.

In responce to the question about possibility of his talks with Dmitriy Medvedev during  the Commonwealth of Independent States Heads of State Summit in Chisinau on October 9, Yushchenko voiced hope for that.

At the same time, the Ukrainian leader spoke with skepticism about effectiveness of the CIS, the majority of whose decisions had not been adapted to the national laws of its member-countries.
