The Adoption Day is being celebrated today for the first time in Ukraine. President Viktor Yushchenko signed a corresponding decree in order to support and develop national adoption, press office of the president reported.
As of January 1, 2009 there are 400 orphanages of family type with 2605 children and 2461 foster homes with 4450 children in total.
The institute of guardianship and adoption provides financial help of 12240 UAH for adoption regardless of child’s age. According to the Ukrainian legislation, maximum age gap between foster parents and a child should not exceed 45 years.
