Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Volodymyr Lytvyn issued an order to cut deputies’ salaries for September. In an interview to ForUm the speaker said he is not going to cancel it.

“This decree works and will work until the parliament cancels it. If somebody wants he can put this issue on the agenda and vote for its termination. But I am not going to cancel it because deputies must work. There is nothing I can say when people ask: If I am an employee of a factory and I don’t work, the company does not pay me salary. So why are the deputies paid for nothing?”

“For the last month the parliament has been blocked many times,” speaker noted. “But my calls to at least vote for this or that law in order to have some grounds to block the parliament in case a law is not passed were not supported,” he added.
