The defense minister of the shadow government, Regions Party MP Oleksandr Kuzmuk, said that Ukraine should remain calm in connection with amendments to the Russian defense law, which were passed at first reading by the State Duma, and the country should think about the adoption of a similar law that helps use military troops abroad.

He said that the United States had passed a similar law long ago and that U.S. troops had been deployed in more than 50 countries, and added that this caused no concern in the Ukrainian government.

Kuzmuk also said that Russia was acting in line with its national interests. "The Ukrainian authorities should also think about the adoption by our parliament of such a law, given that we have peacekeeping contingents abroad and that there's a threat that pirates may hijack our ships and citizens who are obliged to apply for work on board the ships of other states," he said.
