The Prime
Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko is assured that already at the beginning
of following year Ukraine and Canada can discuss the date of signing of
documents on creating a free trade area between the two states. She declared
during her meeting with Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of
Canada Peter Milliken.
“In view of the strength of Canada and possibilities of Ukraine I think our trade turnover can increase
manifold rather fast, if to organize this work correctly,” she noted, Cabinet's press office reported.
According to Yulia Tymoshenko, on the level of governments Ukraine and Canada have to sign a roadmap for the following
several years which will give chance to get to a new level of cooperation. At
this, Yulia Tymoshenko confirmed once again an invitation for the Prime
Minister of Canada to attend Ukraine within nearest time. Also she
informed that she had an intention to meet with Minister of Economics of Canada
whose visit was due on September 23-24.
In addition,
Yulia Tymoshenko is assured Ukraine and Canada have huge
perspectives for maintaining a tighter cooperation in energy area.
Yulia
Tymoshenko emphasized this visit is historical, as it is the first visit of the
Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada to Ukraine: “For Ukraine it is obvious that Canada is a friendly partner for Ukraine in all strategic tasks”.
“I want to
thank that in all the strategic directions Canada support Ukraine on the international level,” Yulia
Tymoshenko noted and, in particular, thanked that the Canadian Parliament had
admitted Holodomor in Ukraine as genocide.
In his
turn, the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada Peter
Milliken noted that “Canada is a reliable trade partner for Ukraine”.
He
disclosed that today over 1 million of Canadians were of Ukrainian origin and
proposed to the Head of Ukrainian Government to elaborate a special program in
the area of tourism between the two states: “Ukraine can become a perfect tourist
attraction for Canadians. I am convinced that after a tourist visit to Ukraine many Canadians would return here to
research business possibilities of your country”. Peter Milliken also invited
Yulia Tymoshenko to attend Canada within nearest time.
