President Viktor Yushchenko has congratulated Ukraine's junior football team on winning the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, his press secretary Iryna Vannykova has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The President congratulated the junior football team on their victory and wished young sportsmen success, good health, valor and sporting achievements," she said.
 
In turn Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko also has congratulated the footballers of Ukraine's junior team on winning the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

"Together with the entire football [country of] Ukraine, I shouted 'well played!' What you did today [on August 2] is unbelievable," the government's press service quoted her as saying.

"You gained a confident, easy and brilliant victory in the final, and you beat not just anybody, you beat the founders of football - a strong and stern English team," reads the letter of congratulation.

"You did it for the first time in the history of Ukrainian football. You've become European champions. You are the team of young and brave, active and courageous, strong and skilful [footballers] - the team of Yuriy Kalitvintsev who brought you to the highest stage and made you the best," reads the letter of congratulation.

"You showed a great example to your elder colleagues, the national team, who are currently preparing to meet England in the World Cup qualifying round in October," Tymoshenko said.

As reported, Ukraine won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship after beating England 2-0 in the final match in Donetsk on Sunday, August 2.
