"There's no difference of opinion in the question of the period of the Russian Black Sea Fleet's basing. There's a clear state position expressed at all levels," ministry spokesman Vasyl Kyrylych said.
In this connection, he said that it had been decided at the highest level to draft basic documents foreseeing the end of the effect of the agreement that allows the deployment of the Russian fleet in Ukraine until 2017.
On May 28, 1997, Ukraine and Russia signed intergovernmental agreements on the stationing of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine. According to the document, Russian rents part of the area in Sevastopol to deploy the major base of its Black Sea Fleet for 20 years, until 2017.
