Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All-Russia has called for spiritual unity to be maintained between Orthodox believers.

"While living in different states, let's preserve the spiritual unity commended by Prince Volodymyr. In this unity is our strength," Patriarch Kirill said after delivering a liturgy in honor of St. Volodymyr at St. Volodymyr Hill in Kyiv on Monday, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

The Russian patriarch called for God's blessing for the whole of Ukraine, its people and the peoples of the Kyivan Rus.

Volodymyr the Great was the grand prince of Kyiv who converted to Christianity in 988 and baptized the whole of the Kyivan Rus.
