Belarus President Oleksandr Lukashenko believes that Ukraine may in prospect become a new rout of energy resources' shipments to Belarus, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"With the global changes starting, we have been forced to see a new rout of energy carriers' supply. Ukraine has access to the sea," Lukashenko said on Thursday at a meeting with Belarusian foreign establishments.

In his words, this prospect may still be dim but it should not be disregarded.

"At present we have very good relations with Ukraine though the forecast was sad," the president said. He stressed that "We have managed to build the relations disregarding the differences in opinions of the presidents [of Ukraine and Belarus] on the international issues."

At the same time, Lukashenko expressed regret that Ukraine is not participating in the efforts towards integrating with Belarus. "We respect their choice, but they are not strangers for us. We see great prospects for strengthening the bilateral ties," the president said.
