Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Oleh Shamshur positively assesses the candidacy of John Tefft whom he calls as a potential U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Kyiv Post reported.
"I met him when I was deputy minister of foreign affairs. He left a positive impression on me," he said at a briefing on Monday.
The official nominee to the post of the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine is not known in Ukraine yet, he added.
"In the United States I've heard the name of Ambassador John Tefft more frequently," he said.
He said that Tefft was U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, he also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and was responsible for U.S. relations with Russia, Belarus Ukraine, and Moldova..
"Yet, this is at the level of rumors," he added.
