Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko stands for creation of a special register of sites of all victories of Cossack troops. He said this during the opening ceremony of the 4th all-Ukraine festival Kozatskyi Rodoslav in Sumy region, according to UkrInform.
"All places of our victories - Konotop, Shapovalovka, Sosnovka, Piliavtsy, Vyhraev, Zborov, Batoh, Kholodnyi Yar, Hurby and others - must be put on a special list under the tutelage of our troops and our people," the President said.
Yushchenko pointed out the role of the Konotop battle in the creation of Ukraine, stressing that those who fell in that battle gave their lives for Ukraine to become free and independent.
The Konotop battle took place in 1659, when the troops of Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi and Crimean Horde defeated the Muscovites.
