Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has said he is critical of the government's environmental policies, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

He made the comment at a national council on the development of nature reserves in Ukraine in the village of Hayivka, Shatsk district, Volyn region, on Thursday, the presidential press service reported.

Yuschenko pointed to the problem of insufficient funds being allocated for nature reserves.

"The financing of nature reserves has been falling for the last three years. In my opinion, it is a great fault, first and foremost, of the government, that the policy that is being popularized around the world, one which has new supporters, is being implemented in Ukraine according to a different approach," he said.

"Such an approach to environmental activities is unacceptable," Yuschenko said.
