"I believe that such a scenario is impossible in Ukraine. This is a political myth, popular among Ukrainian politicians since 2007 (the year of the last early parliamentary elections)," Nalyvaichenko told Russian newspaper Nezavisimaya Gazeta in an interview published on Monday.
"To disprove such statements I can say that Viktor Yuschenko has always instructed us to protect all Ukrainian citizens, whatever their political views are. Neither the SBU, nor other law enforcement bodies will participate in [coup] scenarios. This completely illegal and we cannot execute illegal orders. Our job is to maintain the constitutional order in the country and prevent armed conflicts," the SBU head said.
Nalyvaichenko said that the service would intervene only if an armed coup were to be attempted.
