The parliament coalition should be increased in size, Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn said at a press conference in Zaporizhia on Wednesday, Kyiv Post reported.

"It is evident that today, a broader coalition should exist in the parliament. The Regions Party should join and comprise its core," he said.

According to him, such a union of political forces must be established before the presidential elections, otherwise the new president will find it hard to establish his or her authority.

"Just imagine if [Premier Yulia] Tymoshenko wins. We can't expect the oath ceremony not to be blocked. Or if the other one wins and we have a half-empty parliament. And the whole world will show it, because Ukraine has become an example of what to avoid in state politics. How legitimate is the president if he is taking his oath of office in front of a half empty parliament?" the speaker said.
