President
of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko considers EU initiative of “Eastern partnership”
as an important, but auxiliary instrument which will assist successful implementation
of a reform of the European standard and thus “will form favourable conditions
for quicken integration of Ukraine to the European Union and also deepening of
regional cooperation on the basis of principles and standards of the European
Union”. As the President’s press office reports, President’s press secretary
Iryna Vannikova stated this at a briefing, announcing the working visit of the
President to Prague
where he will take part in the EU Summit “Eastern partnership”.
“The Ukraine’s
position in the question on the “Eastern partnership” remains the same. We welcome
and we are ready to support elements of this initiative thus much, as it will
favour the achievement of Ukraine’s
integration to the European Union. But this initiative must not substitute the
prospective of Ukraine’s
membership in the EU,” Vannikova noted.
