There are currently no real grounds for a rise in consumer prices in Ukraine, Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn said, Urkinform reported.

"If we compare the years 2009 and 2008, there are currently no real grounds and real inflation pressure that were in 2008," he said, adding that there are also no grounds for a rise in the index of producer prices.

Danylyshyn earlier noted the improvement of the economic situation in Ukraine. He said that anti-crisis measures taken by the government and the National Bank of Ukraine, as well as permanent control over the prevention of an unjustified rise in prices, had helped avoid stagflation in the country. He said that despite the difficult economic situation, a rise in consumer prices slowed down to 1.4% in March 2009 from 1.5% in February 2009, and 2.9% in January 2009.

The index of consumer prices totaled 105.9% in January-March 2009 against 109.7% in the same period of 2008.
