“Urgent issues of bilateral Russian-Ukrainian relations were considered, including problems that emerged due to results of the EU-Ukraine International Conference on investments for modernization of Ukraine's gas transportation system that was held on March 23 this year in Brussels”, the statement reads.
In addition, during the meeting a schedule of future contacts between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs was discussed.
As UKRINFORM reported, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev postponed Ukrainian-Russian intergovernmental consultations. According to him, a meeting of V. Putin and Y. Tymoshenko is postponed until “an issue of a gas declaration is cleared up” on modernization of Ukraine's GTS adopted in Brussels.
The Ukrainian Embassy in response stated that it regrets at such a step of the Russian party since it was planned to consider a wider range of issues at an intergovernmental meeting than cooperation in the gas sphere alone. Such a step, in the diplomats' opinion, will only influence the difficult situation in the economies of both countries that feel an impact of the world crisis.
Kyiv is ready to a maximum open and deep dialogue on all problem issues of the current agenda. “And particularly if the Russian party misunderstands provisions signed by Y. Tymoshenko in Brussels, or has any questions on this occasion, we proceed from the fact that just a direct meeting of heads of the two governments will allow to maximum promptly and fully remove all the problems that had emerged. Particularly strange is unwillingness of the Russian party to explain in a direct dialogue those moments that caused certain anxiety in Moscow”, the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow told UKRINFORM.
