The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko can dismiss the NBU chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh. Deputy chairman of the President's Seceratriat Andriy Kyslynskyi said that today at the briefing.

"There are no holy cows for the President. If his orders are not fulfilled and if actions of the heads of financial institutions will not correspond to the situation under which crisis should be overcame, then the President will take appropriate measures," he said.

He also noted that in scope of today's meeting with the NBU chairman and Finance Minister, the President called Stelmakh to start real actions but not mere declarations.

Commenting on the statement of Kyslynskyi, Communist party member Oleksandr Holub said "the parliament should support the dismissal if this question is submitted for consideration. “CPU will obviously vote for this,” he said.

He also noted the authorities of the National bank must be brought to justice for “the financial gerrymander and speculations around the rates of hryvnia and dollar.”
