The Ministry of culture and tourism decreed to exclude 11 monuments to people involved in organization of Holodomor and political repressions in Ukraine form the state register of sights.

It means that eight monuments to Lenin, one to Kosior, one to Chubar and one to Dzerzhynski will be removed in the near future.

Commenting on the decree, deputy chairman of the Kyiv state city administration Serhiy Rudyk said: “I am happy that my initiative has finally found support. But this is only the beginning. I hope the prime minister will sign the decree to dismantle monuments of national significance, first of all the monument to Lenin on Bessarabska square.”

According to the law on “protection and use of historical and cultural sights” dismantling of monuments of national significance requires a corresponding decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
