The President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko expressed gratitude to the European Parliament for the Resolution dated October 23, 2008 on recognition of the Holodomor tragedy of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, the press-service of the President reported.

He sent the appropriate letter to the president of the European Parliament.

"In the name of People of Ukraine I thank you and members of the European Parliament for celebration in honour of millions of our compatriots which became victims of the regime of Stalin," Yushchenko noted in the letter.

The President stressed that recognition of the Holodomor tragedy of 1932-1933 in Ukraine by the most respected institution in Europe was waited for in Ukraine.

The Head of the Ukrainian state noted that this outstanding event is another sign of solidarity and support of Ukraine in her attempts to tell to the entire world about one of the cruelest tragedies of the XX century.

"Blaming the crimes of the past we prevent from their repeat in future," Yushchenko stresses.

As a reminder, on October 23 the European Parliament recognized the holodomor as a crime against humanity and expressed regret to the Ukrainian people.
