Ukrainian underwater archeologists are testing the new device – underwater robot “Sofokl”. It is a powerful domestic device capable to work at a depth of 200 meters. “Sofokl” will examine a British ship, sunk in 1855 near Balaklava. The ship is at a depth of 86 meters.

However, wind and storm did not allow “Sofokl” to reach the ship at the first day of work. The robot is being tested at depth of 20 meters.

Scientists are testing the functioning of the robot and analyzing the quality of underwater video shooting and navigation complex. The robot is capable to examine any underwater discovery and to lift artifacts.

Many ships, boats and aircrafts sank near the Crimean coast in different historical epochs. Earlier archeologists could work at a depth of 10 meters only.
