President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko urges representatives and members of the regional, city and district councils to preserve national course of Ukraine and unite against any "new" and, I'm sure, short-lived unions in the VRU".

It is stated in the address of the Head of the State to local people's deputies, published by the President's press office.

"I address you State figures who know needs and expectations of Ukraine. You are elected by the people and nobody else know the situation in every region as you do.

The events in the parliament have made serious threat for democratic choice of Ukraine. The activity of the coalition has been stopped, this is fraught with danger to reconsider all national priorities to principles of democratic governing, including the local one," it is stated in the address.

"The characteristic feature - new majority has started its work with decisions concerning authorities. Real needs of people were left in the background.

With all responsibility for preservation of national course of Ukraine I urge you and all national forces to unification in spite of any hasty and, I'm sure, short-lived unions in the VRU.

I ask you to resist any provocations.

I urge councils where democratic majority works not to admit its collapse and demonstrate that personally motivated actions of separate leaders could be corrected by consolidating will of all nationally conceived politicians and citizens of Ukraine.

I'm sure that our firm national position will sober people who have taken great interest in another election calculations and it will become a basis for normal political life in the country and real work of true national democratic coalition," the President says.
