President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko is convinced that Ukraine is a reliable transit partner of energy resources to the European Union. He said at the joint press conference with German chancellor Angela Merkel in Kyiv.

“We are the country which exports more than 80% of Russian gas to European countries, and we understand how responsible this mission is. We will thoroughly meet our obligations,” the President confirmed.

Yushchenko underlined that Ukrainian gas transport system is a part of the Europea energy market. “Ukrainian gas transport system could work for stability of the European gas market. We’d like the EU to consider the transit, oil and gas possibilities of Ukraine as a constituent of the European common market,” the President said.

In her turn, Angela Merkel pointed out that the talk concerned the united net of supplies of oil and gas from Baltic to Black and Caspian seas.

“It is needed to form a single system, which would provide stable supplies of Russian and Central Asian resources through Ukraine,” the chancellor said.
