Yesterday, the committee of the Verkhovna Rada on taxation and customs policy supported the overcoming of veto for the law “About the amendments to the law “About customs tariff in Ukraine”, which defers the decrease of a number of duties for 2009. This decision, despite the risk of trade sanctions from WTO members, was supported by BYuT and PR. But through the blocking of work in VR the voting will be held in autumn, according to BYuT.
Passed by 367 people’s deputies it was rejected by the President on June 20, 2008. The document brought the customs regime of Ukraine in accord with the norms of the protocol about membership in WTO, but contained addendum #2, which defers the decrease of duties on the imported cars, alcoholic and anti-alcoholic products, cacao, chocolate and meat by January 1, 2009. This norm provoked the protests of the USA, EU, Canada, Norway and Japan, as Kommersant-Ukraine reports.
