Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel approves Sweden-Polish initiative “Eastern Partnership”, which provides intensification of cooperation between EU and Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Merkel stated earlier in Hdansk (Poland) at the joint press-conference with prime minister of Poland Donald Tusk, as deutsche welle reports.

‘I believe we all will have benefits if we, following the policy of neighbors, will cooperate closely with our east neighbors. On Friday, I will apply to the EU Commission for they make clear proposals and the initiative would not remain a title but become the beginning of concrete projects,’ said Merkel.

Tusk, in turn, said that Berlin and Warsaw work on the question of European prospect for Ukraine.

As ForUm reported, in May 2008, Poland and Sweden offered EU to form “Eastern partnership” with Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. This organization is to unite, except Ukraine, 27 countries of EU.
