As the President’s press office reports, President Viktor Yushchenko attended today the exercises performed by life-saving units of Ministry for Emergencies. The exercises were held at Ministry’s training ground near Kyiv and gathered 150 life-savers, 20 units of special machinery, firefighting plane AN-32P and MI-8 helicopter.
At the event President was familiarized with organization of civil protection in Ukraine, shown life-saving machinery and equipment, used by emergency services, communicated to lifesavers themselves.
'These exercises prove how important that service is for our everyday life,' said Viktor Yushchenko after the exercises in his interview to media. According to him, the Ukrainian lifesavers are ready to present adequate response to any threat.
Yet he also stressed that it is important to keep them properly supplied with technical means and creating stimulus with improving their social protection. 'We must seriously revise our policy regarding the Ministry for Emergencies because the lifesavers are not always getting appropriate remuneration from the state,' said Viktor Yushchenko.
