The Crimea celebrates the Day of Russia today. Festive measures were organized by the political parties and public organizations of the Crimean autonomous republic.
Today Simferopol will see the opening of the International kasaks forum presented mostly by Russian kasaks. There will be a festive demonstration at the streets of Simferopol.
Besides, for the Day of Russia and closing of the II International festival “Great Russian Word” (it was opened on June 6 – birthday of Aleksandr Pushkin) there will be a demonstration for “Russian-Ukrainian friendship and strategic partnership”. The people’s deputies of the Crimean Parliament and representatives of public organizations will be among the participants of the demonstration.
The celebration of the Day of Russia in Simferopol will end with a concert and festive salute.
On June 12, 1990 the first Congress of people’s deputies RSFSR adopted the Declaration about the sovereignty of Russia. In 1994, the Day became a state holiday by the decree of the then president of Russia Boris Yeltsyn. June 12 was also called the Independence Day of Russia.
The official “Day of Russia” has been celebrated since 2002.
