The Bank for Reconstruction and Development intends to donate 135 million euro for financing works connected with the creation of a sarcophagus at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. EBRD President Jean Lemierre told during his speech at the EBRD Annual Board of Directors Meeting in Kyiv. Cabinet's press service reports.
 
“10% of 2007 will be, at the suggestion of the Board of Directors, used as contribution to the international efforts for nuclear security,” he stressed.

At that he noted that another 10% of the EBRD’s income which in 2007 amounted to 1.1 billion euro, meant for the creation of a special stock fund and separate account for deep technical cooperation with the bank.

Moreover he informed that due to the Ukrainian Government’s support EBRD can significantly expand its activity and satisfy investment requirements in the private and public sector as much as possible. He also noted that EBRD means to issue bonds in national currency.

During his speech Jean Lemierre stated that today Ukraine is an example of market economy and also called the Prime Minister of Ukraine and President of Ukraine “great fighters for democracy”.
