Meetings of the Ukraine - NATO and Euroatlantic Partnership military committees at the level of General Headquarters chiefs will take place at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on May 14 - 15. Cabinet's press office reports.

A Ukrainian military delegation with Army General Serhiy Kyrychenko, chief of the General Headquarters and commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at the head, is leaving for Belgium Tuesday for participation in those events, the Defense Ministry press service told.

Apart from this, the Ukrainian delegation to Brussels will for the first time take part in the meetings of the NATO Military Committee in the format of nations contributing to NATO operations in Kosovo (KFOR) and Afghanistan (ISAF).

During the Ukraine - NATO military committee meeting, it is planned to sum up the results of implementation of events under the Ukraine - NATO military committee work plan in the first half of 2008, and analyze the conditions and ways of improvement of operation and transformation capacities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The parties will also discuss participation of Ukrainian military units in international peacekeeping operations under NATO auspices.

During the meeting of the Euroatlantic partnership military committee, the Ukrainian delegation will take part in discussing a number of vital issues. The point at issue will be the situation in and prospects for implementation of the NATO Bucharest summit decisions in military area, the course of NATO and other military operations in the Balkans, in Afghanistan, Iraq and Mediterranean region, achievements and problems over reformatting and development of the Armed Forces in Montenegro, particularly, within the framework of the process for planning and assessment.
