President Viktor Yushchenko is sure that Ukraine’s joining MAP will bring no discomfort to any country. Yushchenko stated in an interview with Romanian television TVR-1.

Among the discussed subjects were Euro-Atlantic integration, in particular, perspectives of joining MAP, Ukrainian energy policy and safety, the issue between Romania and Ukraine with Zmiyiny island status and results of President George W. Bush’s visit to Ukraine.

Estimating the cooperation of Ukraine and NATO, Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine passed through all phases, including the intensified dialog. “The next stage is MAP,” the President expressed his assurance, reminding that Ukraine is the only one country, being not NATO member, but which takes active part in almost all peacekeeping operations of the Alliance all over the world. “Hereby we confirm that we support strategic priorities of the Alliance and we are the state, which the Alliance can rely upon,” he said.

According to the President, the choice of Euro Atlantic course in the sovereign right of every state. “We are guided only by national interests. The interest is not aimed against the third country, including Russia,” the Head of the State confirmed.
