US President George Bush called for his allies from the Western Europe to reward democratic revolutions in Georgia and Ukraine and to include these countries to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He stated in his opening speech at the NATO summit in Bucharest.

The President said the two former Soviet states are ready for membership and that NATO leaders at a summit this week must make clear that membership will remain open to all European nations, no matter what Moscow thinks.

"So my country's position is clear: NATO should welcome Georgia and Ukraine into the Membership Action Plan," President Bush said.

Bush also called for NATO members to step up troop contributions in Afghanistan in order to obtain final victory over Taliban and al-Qaida.
