The official welcoming ceremony by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko for the President of the United States Gorge W. Bush took place in Kyiv. President Yushchenko together with his wife Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko greeted President Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush in the yard of Presidential Secretariat. President’s press office reports.
The two Presidents heard the anthems of the USA and of Ukraine, 21 round artillery salute and viewed guards of honor.
Then mutual introduction of the delegations took place. From Ukraine Minister of Foreign Affairs Volodymyr Ohryzko, NSDC Secretary Raisa Bohatyryova, Presidential Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha, Minister of Defense Yuriy Yekhanurov, Presidential Secretariat deputy Chief of Staff Olexander Chaly, first deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Volodymyr Khandogy and the Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Oleh Shamshur were present.
The American delegation included Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten, National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, Deputy White House Chief of Staff Joe Hagin, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried, Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary Raul F. Yanes, other officials.
After the welcoming ceremony Bush and Yushchenko went to the building of the official residence– the Horodetsky House. The Presidents will hold a “tête-à-tête” meeting. Then the Ukrainian-American enlarged negotiations will take place, after which the ceremony of bilateral documents signing is planned.
At 11 a.m. the meeting of the Presidents with representatives of the mass media will be held. And then the official breakfast from the name of the Ukrainian President in honor of the USA President will take place.
