President Viktor Yushchenko met yesterday with Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Administration head Mykola Paliychuk. President's press office reports.

During the meeting President outlined a number of negative tendencies in the region, which require urgent attention of the administration. In 2007 the region became the only one to show 22 percent decrease in industrial production. There are also ecological problems in the region which led to it occupying 22nd place among all Ukrainian regions in ecology standards ranking. Social infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk region demands renovation too.

President Yushchenko gave a number of instructions aimed at improvement of the situation, such as stirring up establishment of “Hutsulshchyna” National preserve; modernization of social infrastructure, including primary schools and medical facilities; working out a program on dealing with natural disasters, which the region has been facing for last seven years, etc.
