Party of Regions insists on Ukrainian referendum on Ukraine’s joining Action plan on membership in NATO. People’s deputy from PR Yuriy Myroshnychenko said that today, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.
“Yesterday at the conciliatory meeting we did not sign protocol on mutual understanding because it foresees that decision on membership in NATO will be considered in the parliament after the referendum,” he said. According to Myroshnychenko, PR demands to remove the word ‘parliament’ from the text of the resolution. The parliament must take a decision on the stage of ratification of agreement. But it may happen so that at first Ukraine joins Action plan on membership in NATO without holding a referendum, then signs agreement on accession to NATO, then referendum will be held and only then parliament will consider issue on ratification of agreement. In order to avoid such situation, we insist to remove word ‘parliament’ from the text on compromise resolution.
“At first we must hold a referendum on joining Action plan on membership to NATO,” he said.
As a reminder, since February 25 the working group is working in the parliament in order to prepare protocol on mutual understanding. After signing of such protocol unblocking of the parliament is expected.
