President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin discussed through phone with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko problems of fulfillment of bilateral agreements by Ukrainian side on gas sphere which were reached on February 12 in Moscow. The telephone conversation took place by initiative of the Ukrainian side.

In scope of the conversation, Yushchenko also expressed his positive estimation concerning presidential elections in Russia taken place on March 2.

As a reminder, yesterday official representative of Gazprom, the Russian gas monopoly, Sergey Kupriyanov announced about cut of natural gas to Ukraine. According to him, gas supplies were reduced by 24 million cubic meters per twenty-four hours (25%). Later Gazprom reduced gas supplies to Ukraine by another 10% - to 46 million cubic meters. At the same time, Gazprom noted that gas supplies to European consumers continue to be supplied in full volume.

In turn “Naftogaz Ukraine’ stated that cut of supplied gas is insignificant and it will not influence Ukrainian consumers.

Last week Gazprom threatened to cut gas supplies in case Ukraine does not pay off debts.

After that vice PM of Ukraine Olexander Turchynov stated that Ukraine covered all debt to gas mediators. Debt in amount of 5.2 milliard was paid off. But at the same time Ukraine did not admit 414 million from that sum which were calculated for gas supplied in 2006 at prices of 2007.
