301 Ukrainians of the 56th helicopter detachment's current rotation serving in the UN peacekeeping mission to Liberia were decorated with the UN medals "In the Service of Peace". As the Defense Ministry of Ukraine told, the ceremony was attended by Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Liberia Ellen Margrethe Loj and Force Commander of the UN mission to that country Lieutenant General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, as well as by representatives of other peacekeeping contingents and local authorities. Cabinet's press service reports.
When greeting the Ukrainian peacekeepers, Ms. Loj described their service as a significant contribution to the global peacekeeping efforts.
Force Commander of the UN Mission to Liberia Isaac Obiakor, in turn, expressed confidence that the Ukrainian helicopter detachment will continue to demonstrate its competence in future important assignments.
The Ukrainian peacekeepers have been serving in the UN mission to Liberia since January 2004.
