President Viktor Yushchenko held a meeting with State Customs Service Head Valeriy Khoroshkovsky, acting Head of the Security Service Valentyn Nalyvaichenko and Foreign Intelligence Service Head Mykola Malomuzh. President's press office reports.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing reform of customs bodies and rising effectiveness of fighting smuggling and other customs regulations violations. Speaking about a need to reform customs bodies the President informed that there is a draft legislative act currently being prepared aimed at modifying relations between customs and law enforcement bodies in executing supervision over the economic border as well as enhancing the work of Customs Service itself. He also drew attention of those present to the need to implement modifications into certain areas of customs bodies work such as simplifying customs procedures by reducing a number of customs supervision bodies at the border, shrinking a list of goods subject to obligatory certification, etc. Another important and urgent step mentioned by Viktor Yushchenko was implementation of the “electronic customs” system.
