President Viktor Yushchenko met today with Volyn Regional State Administration head Mykola Romanyuk. President's press office reports.

During the meeting officials discussed social and economic development of the region, preparation to Euro 2012, etc.

Speaking about Euro 2012 the President stressed that Volyn region, being a western gate to Ukraine, has many things to be done such as finishing reconstruction of Kyiv - Kovel – Yahodyn and beginning construction of an international airport at Lutsk military airfield.

Separate attention was paid to ensuring existing border checkpoints proper functioning as well as building new ones. Demarcation of Ukrainian-Byelorussian border financing was another discussed urgent topic.

Viktor Yushchenko also urged Mykola Romanyuk to work out together with neighboring Regional Administrations heads a draft law “On providing Polissya territories of Ukraine with a special status”. According to the President, implementation of such law would positively influence economic situation in Polissya, particularly agriculture sector, which currently yields losses due to special climate and low land productivity.
