President Viktor Yushchenko met today with Justice Minister Mykola Onishchuk, according to president's press office.

The meeting was dedicated to anticorruption policy which was designated by the President as work priority of the Ministry for 2008.

In this regard V. Yushchenko and M. Onishchuk both agreed that the draft Presidential Decree “On measures aimed at improving and realization of state anticorruption policy” which resulted from joint work of the Ministry of Justice and the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine shall make state anticorruption policy more consistent. Among novelties introduced by the Decree is systematic examination of legislation which Ministry of Justice would be charged with.

M. Onishchuk also informed the President that anticorruption package of laws that V. Yushchenko had sent to the Verkhovna Rada was adopted in its first reading. The Minister opined that if the abovementioned law package and the Decree are implemented, anticorruption legislation would greatly benefit from them.
