Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has no doubts that the parliament will cancel People’s deputies’ immunity. He stated in an interview with the newspaper “Ukraina Moloda” from January 3.

The VRU chairman reminded that one draft bill had been already registered in the parliament. “But there is specificity: it is necessary to change the Constitution so that to cancel People’s deputies’ immunity. It needs several sessions of the VRU and 300 votes. But it is quite possible,” he said.

According to the speaker, it is very important not to lead the People’s deputies’ immunity to absurd, when People’s deputies bear responsibility for their political statements.

At the same time, Yatsenyuk confessed that he was against the slogan of the OU-PSD on cancellation of the People’s deputies’ immunity. “I do not consider the cancellation of the People’s deputies’ immunity as the main priority. Such slogan was determined by the head quarter (head quarter of the OU-PSD) but, frankly speaking, I don’t think that it was reasonable,” Yatsenyuk said.
