President Viktor Yushchenko attended celebration of Ukrainian Diplomacy Day which took place today in National Opera.

Viktor Yushchenko highly evaluated achievements of Ukrainian diplomats such as signature of partnership agreements with Russia, the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Ukraine and the EU (PCA), Charter on a Distinctive Partnership with NATO. He also expressed his assurance that Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall further on continue to successfully coordinate Ukrainian foreign policy. “Owning to activity of Ukrainian diplomatic service our state became an important contributor to global stability and security,” President said.

Speaking about current tasks which national diplomats face Yushchenko emphasized that supreme aim of Ukrainian diplomacy must be systematic and pragmatic protection of national interests as well as rights and freedoms of every Ukrainian citizen.

President reaffirmed European and Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations of Ukraine and pointed out significance of taking new steps in these directions. He also dwelled on the need to intensify cooperation with international global and regional organizations such as UN, Council of Europe, GUAM, BSEC, Community Of Democratic Choice.

“We have a lot of work to do. I am assured that owning to fruitful work of the new government and to our close cooperation we will be able to realize designated plans,” Yushchenko said.
