President Viktor Yushchenko sent a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych with the request to call up a governmental commission to examine the situation in Ukrainian aluminum industry, president's press office reported.

President drew particular attention of Prime Minister to joint-stock company Zaporizhia Aluminum Works. Production at this factory is in danger to be halted due to unprofitability of Ukrainian aluminum industry. As the abovementioned enterprise is considered strategic and production process on it, should it be stopped, is hard to renew. President asked V. Yanukovych to call up a commission which is to work out measures to solve economic issues with aluminum production enterprises including those of Zaporizhia Aluminum Works. Special attention should be paid to economic substantiation of electricity tariffs for the abovementioned enterprise.

In addition President asks Prime Minister to analyze implementation of national mining industry development and transformation program adopted by Cabinet of Ministers on July 29, 2004.

V. Yushchenko awaits the information on the conducted work from V. Yanukovych till January 15, 2008.
