Agreements reached between Russia and Ukraine guarantee regular supplies of Russian gas to Europe in 2008. Price for gas for Ukraine of USD 179.5 for thousand cubic meters is balanced. The first vice PM of the Russian Federation and chairman of board of directors of “Gasprom” Dmitriy Medvedev said that on Thursday.
“We cant but be glad that agreements are reached in December but not at the beginning of 2008. It gives significant guarantees on supplies and helps avoid problems which were previous years,” Medvedev said.
In 2005-2006 the conflict on prices for gas for Ukraine led to short cut off and break in supplies to Europe. That time agreements between Ukraine and “Gasprom” were signed some days after the New year.
As a reminder, on December 4 Ukraine and Russian agreed on gas price for Ukraine of USD 179.5 and on December 5 the sides signed agreements.
In turn, Yulia Tymoshenko considers such price is high and that it is total failure of Yanukovych’s government.
President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko considers that price for gas at USD 179.5 for thousand cubic meters is high and call politicians not to politicize issue on gas supply.
