Pollution of Kerch channel by oil products as a result of shipwrecks on November 11 does not constitute a threat to resorts territories of Crimea peninsular. Volodymyr Savelyev the Minister of resorts and tourism of Crimea said.
“There is no threat to resorts territories of Crimea. There are confirming data from Emergency and Ecology Ministries and state sanitary service of Ukraine. There is no threat to beaches of Crimea. Tuzla island and Russian territory suffered the most losses, “ he said.
Ecologists consider losses of the storm on November 11 are catastrophic. Pollution of the Sea by oil products became one of the most ecology catastrophes since Chernobyl accident 1986.
Savelyev does not agree with statements that “Crimea is the second Chernobyl”. “There is no ground for such statements. I have data from sanitary service that rate of oil pollution is decreasing,” he said.
On November 13 in Kerch channel 50fold exceeding of admissible norm of oil products in the Sea was observed. As a result of it there was mass death of fish and birds.
As a reminder, on November 11 the heavy storm became a reason for accident in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov: about twenty ships were shipwrecked. As a result of catastrophe, about 2 thousand tons of black oil leaked in to the sea and about 7 thousand of sulphur are underwater in sank ship.
Ukrainian ecologists warn that consequences of oil damage in Kerch channel will last for several years under the most optimistic scenario.
