BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko stated that current government would be responsible for failure of energy policy and assistance in corruption in fuel-energy complex.

Tymoshenko said, commenting on agreement between Ukraine and Russian on price growth for gas of  USD 179.5 per thousand of cubic meters.

“Establishment of price for Russian gas at USD 179.5 per thousand of cubic meters shows the total failure of energy policy of Yanukovych’s government and the whole policy of this government,” Tymoshenko said.

According to her, PM of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and his party participated in elections “under slogans of cheap gas from Russia, but as a result we got one of the highest prices for gas in the Eastern Europe.”

According to Tymoshenko, at first Russia was ready to set price at USD 160 but after long negotiations with representatives of Yanukovych’s government the price comprises USD 179.5 per thousand of cubic meters. These additional 20 dollars will be accumulated in bottomless pockets of “RosUkrEnergo”.

At the same time Tymoshenko reminded that in October of the current year chairman of committee of directors of “Gasprom” Dmitriy Medvedev expressed readiness to refuse from mediatory services of “RosUkrEnergo” while transporting gas to Ukraine. So Russia does not need “RosUkrEnergo, but Yanukovych and his Ministers need it very much,” she said.

According to Tymoshenko, policy of Yanukovych corresponds to interests of PM and Ministers but does not correspond to national interests of Ukraine.

Tymoshenko considers that after formation of new government Ukraine has chance to start new constructive negotiations with Russian colleagues in order to exclude mediators from energy relations between Russia and Ukraine.

On December 4, 2007 Russia and Ukraine have reached an agreement on the gas price of USD 179.5 thousand cubic meters for 2008.
